MCORP Technologies- Envision the Future of Shrink Sleeve Decorating

Being just a PET packaging provider was not enough for Mcorp Technologies Inc. As a commitment to be a full service provider Mcorp installed in their 10,000 sq. ft plant a full line for shrink sleeve application.

Mcorp's facility is located in Burlington, Ontario, is a state of the art 10,000 sq. ft plant that provides custom PET packaging for food, beverages, household products, personal care products and other value added services, including shrink sleeve decorating.

SleevePro400

As the Product Development/Engineering Manager, Craig Lucas explains the SleevePro 400, Steametec Steam Tunnel and Tornado-Hot Air Tunnel from Karlville Development (www.karlville.com) were chosen to start a shrink sleeve application line, a new core business for their com, pany. “The SleevePro400 and the Steamtec 3000 were installed in 2008 and the Tornado was installed in 2010 in conjunction with a move to a new and larger location. Our operation is set up to run 24/7 in our facility, so the equipment chosen for our shrink sleeve application line had to have quick and uncomplicated tooling changeovers”

All the equipment acquired were new installations with the Tornado Tunnel being added as additional equipment to supply the health, beauty and pharmaceutical industry. The line is currently running in its majority, empty containers in metal, HDPE, PVC, PEC, and Polypro.

When deciding the type of applicator to buy, “flexibility was the key requirement, as we do custom sleeving on many different bottle sizes and shapes”, says Michael W. Hunter, President and CEO, Mcorp Technologies Inc. The SleevePro400 has “quick and uncomplicated tooling changeovers”, says Craig Lucas, Product Development/Engineering Manager. In their current line, changeovers average approximately every 24 hours for bottle sizes from 250 ml to 2L with a maximum height of 12 inches. Tooling changes typically takes around 30 to 45 minutes, and an artwork change on the same bottle is seamless due to an accumulation unit.

The SleevePro400 has affected our company is a positive way, as we believe that the quality of our finished products is excellent and cost effective. It has allowed us to enter a new market providing contract sleeving and add value to our own core business of producing custom PET bottles. The Steamtec and Tornado Tunnel allow for different material types and complex bottle shapes due to flexibility and process control of ovens. Consistency is dependent on quality bottles and sleeves.

Karlville Development has continued to grow with us over the course of our relationship the last 2 years. "Good technical and spare part support, when it has been required", Lucas explains is the key for good relationship.

The average supermarket shopping list usually included a product type rather than specific brands. Although, many customers enter retail outlets with a predisposition to a certain brand, many times the final decision is made in the aisle.
